The crits themselves were more or less managed by ourselves, we were able to decide individually whether we wanted to talk about either or both of the briefs and as a group we were able to decide the timescale each member of the group had to present their work.
As we all wanted to receive feedback on both of the briefs, we began by each presenting our work-in-progress for the 'What is Design For Print?' brief and then the 'Design For Web' brief, with each person having five to ten minutes to present.
For the 'Design For Print' brief I presented my idea for the format of my 'Info-Pack' which will be six instructional leaflets - one for each of the six areas of print we have been learning about - which will feature 'step by steps', diagrams and 'handy hints' and will be aimed at beginner Graphic Design students.
My Feedback:
- Possible Format - The shape of the mock-up leaflet I have created lends itself to the shape of a swatch we could be a possible concept for the 'info-pack'. Continuing this theme, each of the leaflets could incorporate one colour or could be one tint of a colour
- Content - Although I did want to keep a consistency throughout the six leaflets it was suggested that the content will have to differ slightly from leaflet to leaflet as there is not much scope for instructing on the subject of 'Stock' - Perhaps for Stock I could take inspiration from the paint swatches found in B& Q
- Stock - The question was posed, what stock will I use? For the inside of leaflet I will need to use a stock that is easily malleable and folded. However for the outside I want to use a thicker or heavier stock to give it a professional feel.
- Target Audience - Originally, I was going to aim the leaflets at beginner Graphic Design Students, however I was encouraged to delve into this deeper, who are Graphic Design students? I therefore created a spider diagram detailing this :
I was extremely pleased with the feedback I have received for this brief, the points made by the group were constructive which will be useful in terms the development of my final resolution into something which will be appropriate for my selected target audience and the brief.
For the 'Design For Web' brief I presented the initial design which I had created and developed as part of the workshops and studio sessions I have attended and well as an initial site map detailing how the navigation would work throughout the site.
My Feedback:
- As the original sketched I had created look like quite 'text heavy' it was suggest that instead of using 'How To...' on every tab, use this as an overall title to shorten the titles on the tab . For example, 'How To... Create a Successful Campaign' would become 'Creating a Successful Campaign'.
- Target Audience - Rather than aiming the website at designers, which I had originally proposed, it was suggested that I could instead aim at businesses or charities who want to create a promotional campaign but simply do not have the funds in order to employ someone and therefore can use a site as a guide on how to do it themselves.
