OUGD504: Design Production - Design For Print and Web: Website Proposal

When proposing a website I need to consider:
  • The website I will propose for the institute is an important aspect of the concept, as this is were the potential applicants will be directed to in order to submit their work as part of the application process.
  • The content of site will include; the history of the institute and what it's about, any upcoming events and exhibitions which will be taking place at the institute in the near future and the application form for the institute.
  • The website will take the standard web format of 968 px x 1024 px which works on 99% of devices.

In order to design and propose a successful website, I would need to give consideration to how the website will be interacted with and how it will navigated through by the user. Therefore I collected examples of websites - which have relatively simple designs - to see how they have achieved this.

In order to give a sense of continuity between the print and web aspects of my project, it is imperative that the website had a minimalistic yet professional feel to it, in keeping with the printed products. Therefore the initial designs I produced for the site were quite simplistic.

The concept behind the 'isolé' institute is that it is a selective institution, therefore I decided that the content of the website will only be accessible to members of the institution. Once members of the public had applied to the institute and been accepted they will be given a login which means they can access information such as history and upcoming events and exhibitions.

Mock-ups

iMac

iPad

Once I had mocked-up how the website would look on a mac screen and on a iPad I did consider creating an app to extend the design further however as the concept of the institute is that it is selective I  personally felt it would not be appropriate which would be available to the general public.
