OUGD504: Design Production - Design For Print and Web: Invitation

When designing and producing invitations I need to consider:
  • The invitations will be sent out to members of the institution to inform and invite them to upcoming events and exhibitions which will be held at the institution.
  • It is imperative that the design of the invitations is simplistic so that all the information is clear and understandable.
  • The invitations will need to include a range of practical information such as dates, times etc. so that the audience are fully informed.
  • The invitation will be in the A6 format.

The important thing to take into consideration when designing invitation for an exhibition and event is that all the vital information that the audience will need is legible in a relatively small format.
Through my research I able see how previous designers had achieved this.

As the invitations will be sent to existing members of the institution, I felt it would be appropriate to keep a similar aesthetic to the other printed products for the institution. Placing the logo in the top left hand corner also makes a aesthetic pleasing and legible design which would be appropriate for an invitation.

OUGD504: Design Production - Design For Print and Web: Envelope

When designing and producing envelopes I need to consider:
  • In order to reiterate the high quality of the institution, the letters and correspondence they send will be sent in hand-crafted, specially made envelopes.
  • It is imperative that whilst keeping to the visual design I have created for the institute that the envelopes also stand out next to the vast amount of other envelopes that will come through their door.
  • As well as the logo and/or icon which represents the institution the envelope will also need to include a return address for practical reasons.
  • The envelopes will be hand crafted from square paper, around 30 mm x 30 mm in order to taccommodate a A4 piece of paper.

One of the main things I need to take into consideration when designing an envelope for the institute is that the design will need to stand out in some way in order to differentiate it from the vast amount of envelopes that come through peoples door, as well as in-keeping with the standard of the institute. To achieve this I sought inspiration from previous designs which have used factors such as stock to create revolutionary design.

In order to give a sense of continuity throughout all the printed products I will design and produce for the institute I felt it was appropriate to keep the design for the envelope quite minimalistic, instead using the stock I will print onto in order to create an eye-catching design.

OUGD504: Design Production - Design For Print and Web: Letterhead and With Compliments Slip

When designing and producing letterheads and with compliments slips I need to consider:

Letterhead
  • Although the letterhead will be used for all of the correspondence made by the institution, more specifically it will  be used for letters of application or decline to the applicants of the institution.
  • The design of letterhead will therefore need to demonstrate the high standard of the design which the institute expects of it's students and what they represent.
  • Similarly to the business card the contact information for the institute will need to be included on the letter head in a layout which is clearly readable.
  • The format for the letterhead will be the standard A4 size.

With Compliments Slip
  • The with compliments slip will be used for the more informal correspondence made by the institution.
  • In order to keep a continuity and reiterate the strong branding which is asked for by the brief, the design for the with compliments slip will be an adapted version of the letterhead.
  • As well as the contact information which was included on the letterhead, the with compliments slip will also include a pre-printed greeting such as 'with compliments'.
  • The format of the with compliments slip will be a third of A4.

The letterhead and with compliments slip in which I will design for the institute will be used for the main form of correspondence made by the institution therefore the design needs to demonstrate the high quality design in which the institute stands for and expects of it's prospective students.

I personally felt the best way to demonstrate this would be to produce a design which employs a minimalistic style, which as I found through research is commonly used to demonstrate a high end company or business.
