CYMK
- Also known as Process Colour
- Talking about inks
- CMYK are the ink used in the process
- Subtractive colour, all the colours mixed together makes black
- For Full colour printing job - piece of paper goes through four times
- Lightest colour is printed first - Yellow then Cyan then Magenta and finally Key (or Black)
RGB
- Additive colour, all the colours mixed together makes white
Application of colour in Illustrator
Menu > Select all unused swatches > delete
- Registration swatch, should only be used for registration marks
- To create a new swatch, can alter the CYMK values to create a new swatch
- To create a swatch based on artwork, can use the 'eye drop' tool to select the colour
- Menu > Add all used colours
- Add colour swatches from art work in the document
- Global swatches have a link between the swatch and the artwork which that swatch has been applied to
- With local swatches there is no link between the swatch and the artwork that the swatch has been applied to
- With global swatches you can work with tints of that swatch
Menu > Create new swatch
- Series of tints for one swatch
- By editing the 100 % swatch all of the tints for that swatch will be affected as they are all linked
Spot Colour
- a colour that is printed not by mixing CMYK
- It is a ready mixed ink
- It is cheaper as it is just one ink and one run through the printer
- Could create expense if spot colours are added to the CMYK print
- Consistent application of colour - Will always be the same colour
- More exciting colours - Colours that aren't possible to reproduce using CMYK inks
- Accessed through Pantone colour libraries
