OUGD503: Responsive Design Process 2 - Competition Brief 3: Secret 7", Research

To begin my research for the Secret 7" brief, I began by reading the lyrics of my chosen song 'Grounds For Divorce' By Elbow which I hoped would inspire some ideas for possible imagery I could use to represent the song.

I also began some basic research into the song itself, to find out what it was about and what the main inspiration behind it had been.
  • Written when frontman Guy Garvey was in an unhappy relationship
  • Aftermath of losing his friend - personal song
  • To escape from it all
  • Was drinking too much

From the this, imagery which I felt would be interesting to explore were;
  • Falling
  • Cocktails - Mixture, Ingredients
  • Compass
  • Chinese cigarette case
  • Neighbourhood
Therefore I produced a spider diagram, using these words as starting point to begin creating a concept and idea for my final outcome(s).

I personally believe my strongest concept was the idea of using an imagery of a cocktail, demonstrating the four ingredients of said to be the four legal grounds for divorce for example; adultery, irreconcilable differences, unreasonable behaviour and/or desertion.

To inform the aesthetic of my design, I decided to collect images of cocktails particularly in the info-graphic style.
