Following our last progress critique for the collaborative brief, we were required to have our chosen brief as close to finished as possible for a more formal critique of our design solution along with design boards of our final solutions and proposals.
Therefore me and Charlie felt it was imperative that we began designing and producing our final outcomes for the brief in order to meet the deadline set by Fred and by YCN. Once we had decided on some very basic outlines for the design - two thirds of the design would be a scene relating to the profession and one third would be left for outfit and bear template - I was able begin drawing out the designs for Charlie to place on to Illustrator and produce digitally.
As we were still in the developmental stage in terms of cereal box back designs, I produced a couple of designs which both me and Charlie could choose from; the first was quite different to the style previously used by the Bear brand, instead of depicting a scene I created a repetitive pattern relating to each profession a magnifying glass pattern for detective etc. I personally felt this design would work well for our box back designs as the patterns were quite simple and with the facts about the profession which we planned to add the overall design would not be too overwhelming for the audience.
The second design was similar to the style which is currently used on the Bear cereal box backs, which depicted a scene which related to the chosen profession a runway for pilot etc. Although I personally preferred the first design Charlie made the point that the design ultimately needed to engage a young target audience and therefore the second design would be more appropriate.
Once we had chosen an overall design for the cereal box backs which could be applied to all five professions charlie began using my illustration as a template to produce the design digitally on illustrator and mock-up the design onto an actual cereal box to give us a better idea of how the design would look in distribution.
